April 12, 2002

The Senate (Morris, Feliciano and Jordan who replaced Adkins) and House
(Wilk, Neufeld and Nichols) conference committees met tonight and went over
both House and Senate budget bills to see where the differences lie.  The
differences are great!

They adjourned until April 23rd where they will conference and hopefully come
out with a compromise bill to take back to the full Senate and House when
they meet again on May 1st.

No mention was made of a tax bill.  The assumption is that the Senate bill
(which has not been debated in the Senate yet) will be the bill used to
discuss taxes.

So that's it for now.  We'll be taking a little break next week and we'll be
back here (Topeka) on April 23rd. Please don't forget to meet with
legislators while they are home and remind them we want:
1. No changes to PASSAR scores
2. No changes to PIL
3. Money for waiting list ($3 million)
4 Reinstate wages ($1.8 million)

More to come in two weeks.

Gina
