Yesterday the House began to take it's "temperature on taxes".  It was not
pretty!

Representative Deena Horst, R Salina, offered a proposal to increase income
taxes which would raise about $93 million.  Her amendment was defeated 115 to
7.  Those of you from the Salina area should send her a note thanking her for
her courage and wisdom!  I know I will!

Next up was Rep Brenda Landwehr. She proposed two amendments which did pass
to final action.  One was to add a line to Tax forms to allow for a school
check off and the other was to add a line on tax forms for an HCBS checkoff.
This would allow tax payers the option, when they file taxes, if they are
getting a refund, to "give" part of their refund to their favorite school
district or the HCBS Waivers.  Those both passed.

There also was a proposal which passed to final action that allows low income
seniors to deduct a percentage of their property taxes from their state
income taxes...That's right, this bill won't raise any money, in fact it will
cost more money.

Today's topic for taxes is inheritance and property.

That's all for now.
