The
House Appropriations Committee reviewed the SRS budget proposal from the sub
committee yesterday afternoon. In addition to the recommendations made in
the sub committee, two items were added. Rep. Jerry Henry made a motion
to take money struck that morning from K-TEC and put $400,000 into the Sr. Care
Act, $400,000 into CDDO State Aid/Grants, $400,000 into CMHC State Aid/Grants
and $100,000 into the prison fellowship program. That was accepted.
There was discussion of the closure of state hospitals and after lengthily discussion
it was decided to just look at the MR/DD Hospitals.
Senate discussion of the Mega bill begins today upon adjournment of the Senate.
We never heard the term "megabill" before, but we assume it is
the whole budget. Each subcommittee has made their recommendations and now they
will look at the entire bill.
As you recall, they then take a short break, which this year could be longer
than usual and come back to do the Omnibus bill.
Thanks to Josie Torrez and Jennifer Schwartz for late nights at the statehouse!
