First
of all, thanks to all who showed up for the Appropriations sub committee
meeting on Tuesday. Your presence made a difference, believe me!
The committee met last night to develop their report on the Department on Aging
budget. Thanks to our "STATEHOUSE reporter" Josie Torrez for the
update on the meeting.
In that budget report they did not add any new money. They did however, agree
to put in language about the dollar following the individual. That's the
good news.
The bad news is that there will be some language that before Omnibus they
consider reviewing and recommending raising the Level of Care Scores to
40. They would "grandfather" in all who are currently receiving
services, but people on the waiting list would be removed. They DID NOT
recommend raising scores yet, but unless it starts raining money, we suspect
that they will.
So we need to start educating our Representatives and Senators on the problems
with raising the scores. HMMMM, yes, I know we've "been there, done
that". However, I think they need to know this is a very important issue.
Also, very important and probably at about the same time as they review scores
again is:
