Message from KRS / Dale Barnum

October 9,2002

** High Priority **

As we have discussed over the past few months, it is evident that we
will not make it through the current fiscal year without instituting a
waiting list for services.  We have decided that rather than wait until
we must react to the realities of budget, spending and caseload, we
should carefully plan our actions.

Beginning today, (10/4/02)  at 4:55pm we have closed all Order of
Selection categories and have established a waiting list for services.
Those consumers who had a completed IPE prior to this time will continue
to be served.  KRS staff will also continue to take applications and
determine eligibility for services.

We determined that establishing a waiting list at this time would allow
consumers to be "rolled off" of the waiting list as adjustments are made
relating to caseload, expenditures and budget, allowing them to be
served in a more planned and timely fashion.  Our other choice, of
continuing all services for a few additional months and then closing all
categories for an extended period of time did not seem in the best
interest of our consumers or the agency.

All KRS staff have been notified of this action and have been informed
that further instructions will be made available next week.  If you have
questions or comments, please feel free to contact me.
